Frequently asked questions

I found something. What does the grade mean?

“Certain” means the device declares itself a tracking accessory. “Confirmed” means a known signature of a tracker family. “Hint” means suspicion based on behaviour — not proof. A tracker nearby is not yet a tracker following you; what matters is whether it accompanies you across several places. That is exactly what the safety check, drive mode and the history are for.

Why does the app report nothing although I suspect something?

Only what transmits can be found. GPS trackers with a SIM card (they use the mobile network), wired cameras and anything switched off right now stay invisible. A green tick means “nothing found that transmits” — not “clean”.

Why does it need the location permission?

To tell whether a device accompanies you across different places — without a place reference, a tracker that merely happens to be nearby could not be distinguished from one that follows you. On Android 11 and older the permission is additionally a technical prerequisite for Bluetooth scanning. The location never leaves the device. Without the permission, detection keeps working, only without the place reference.

Why is there a permanent notification?

Tracking mode, drive mode and the standing guard keep scanning while the screen is off. Android requires a foreground service with a visible notification for that and would otherwise throttle the scan after a short while. You can stop it from the app at any time.

The app finds nothing at all any more.

Usually something is switched off: is Bluetooth on? Are location services on? Are the “nearby devices” and location permissions granted? With the aggressive battery management of some manufacturers it helps to exempt the app from optimisation — otherwise the background scan gets killed.

The Wi-Fi device search finds nothing.

From Android 16 on, access to the local network is a permission of its own. Without it the search does run, but reaches no device — and the result would look like “nothing found”. The app asks for it before searching; otherwise it can be granted under Android Settings → Apps → trackersAnywhere → Permissions.

Independently of that, the search only finds devices on the same Wi-Fi. Many hotel networks separate their guests from one another (client isolation) — the phone then sees nothing but the router, and that says nothing about the room.

How do I delete my data?

There is no account and no server; all data is on the device. Three ways:

• “Clear history” in the app — deletes the stored sightings
• “Quit app” — deletes as well and switches the watchers off
• Android Settings → Apps → trackersAnywhere → Storage → Clear data — resets everything

Left alone, the history disappears after seven days. Details are in the privacy policy.

Does it run on my device?

Android 8 and newer. Bluetooth Low Energy is required; individual checks need hardware that not every phone has (a magnetometer for the sweep, NFC for reading chips held against the phone). Where it is missing, that one check is unavailable and the rest works normally. The interface comes in 24 languages, plus an optional companion for Wear OS.

Does the app cost anything? Ads?

No and no. No ads, no in-app purchases, no analytics.
